After failing with her jewellary business in Camden, Mel arrived in the square interested in a job at Beale's Market. She had been also travelling around Greece previous to this, trying to escape from her family. But came face to face with them when realising that Walford was now the home of Brother Alex and Father Jeff. She was upset to learn that her parents were now divorced.

She decided to marry Ian Beale, her boss - which was a great suprise to the viewers, as she was the one to propose. Who knows what she saw in Ian, but she had her reasons apparently. She had spent a few wilderness years in Greece, and been someones misteress, and now saw this as her chance to settle down with someone secure and a ready made family.

Only things did not go according to plan and she slept with Steve Owen on a trip to Brighton and decided that she didn't actually love Ian. She wanted to call the wedding off, but Ian lied to her that daughter Lucy was dying, and wanted to be a bridesmaid. Mel, being a bit of a sucker for lies - decided to go through with the wedding, but jilted Mr Beale 6 hours after the ceremony.

She fell into the arms of Mr Steve Owen once again, and after her divorce with Ian was final, she agreed to marry Steve.  Mel let her feminine charms get in her way a second time though, and bedded Steve's arch nemisis Phil. Steve found out, and was not a happy bunny to say the least - but what would he do to Phil?

After arriving back from Honeymoon, Mel was shocked to find new hubbie in the frame for murder. It was all her fault too apparently. Anyhow, Steve was cleared, and the two finally settled into wedded bliss....

Until, Dan arrived on the scene after being framed with Phil's murder, and believing that Mr Owen had pulled the trigger decided to kidnap Mel and get some money from Steve. Mel was worth £100,000 in fact!!

She discovered quite a lot about hubbie no.2 during this time tied up, and walked out on Steve torching his club - which he led her to believe that he had actually given her!! What did I say about Mel being gullible??

During her time away, Mel managed to monopolise on the money she had recieved from Dan - she apparently deserved it after being tied up for so long!! She returned to Walford with a smart new look, and nice new haircut and was ready to win back hubbie - but in true Mel and Steve style - only after months of games!

She got her man in the end, and they lived happily ever after .....yeah, I wish. The writers decided to kill off Mr Owen, leaving Mel in the frame for drug trafficing, and tonnes of dodgy businesses - in her name. Mel Gullible Owen strikes again!

Mel left Walford Pregnant and on the run. She went to Portugal on a  Coach with no passport!!
